Introduction
Pongal, the traditional harvest festival of Tamil Nadu, symbolizes gratitude, prosperity, unity, and cultural heritage. In order to inculcate cultural values and promote togetherness among students and staff, Pongal was celebrated with great enthusiasm and traditional fervor at our institution on 13/01/2026.

Inauguration and Pongal Pooja
The programme commenced at 9.30 a.m. with a traditional Pongal Pooja. The Pongal pot was decorated beautifully, and fresh ingredients such as rice, milk, jaggery, sugarcane, and turmeric were arranged as per tradition. The Pongal was prepared collectively by students and staff, chanting traditional slogans like “Pongalo Pongal”, creating a festive atmosphere. The Chief Guest, Director, and Principal participated in the pooja and offered prayers for the welfare and success of the institution and students.
Cultural and Traditional Games
Following the Pongal Pooja, various traditional games and cultural activities were conducted to encourage student participation and team spirit.
- Uriyadi (Pot Breaking):
Uriyadi was conducted with great excitement. Students enthusiastically participated, and the event created laughter and joy among the audience. - Musical Chair: Musical chair was conducted for students and faculty members, making the programme lively and entertaining.
- Sugarcane Breaking: The traditional sugarcane breaking activity symbolized prosperity and sweetness in life. Students actively participated and enjoyed the event.
- Murukku Biting Competition: This fun-filled traditional competition brought cheerful moments and active participation from students.
- Tug of War: Tug of war was conducted to encourage teamwork and physical fitness. Separate teams were formed, and the competition was enjoyed by both participants and spectators.
- Pongal Special Dance: Students performed a special Pongal-themed dance highlighting Tamil culture, rural life, and the significance of the harvest festival. The performance was well appreciated by the dignitaries and audience.
Address by Dignitaries
The Chief Guest, Mr. Murugesan, addressed the gathering and emphasized the importance of preserving cultural traditions and maintaining unity among students.
The Director, Mr. Subramaniyan, encouraged students to balance academics with cultural activities.
The Principal, Prof. Leelavathy, appreciated the efforts of students and faculty for organizing the celebration successfully and highlighted the importance of cultural values in professional life.
Distribution of Pongal and Sugarcane
At the end of the programme, the management generously distributed sweet Pongal and sugarcane to all students, faculty members, and staff, spreading joy and togetherness.
Conclusion
The Pongal celebration concluded at 2.00 p.m. with happy memories, cultural enrichment, and a sense of unity among all participants. The programme was a grand success due to the wholehearted support of the management, active participation of students, and dedicated efforts of faculty members.
